YOU DON’T HAVE TO LIVE WITH UNWANTED SKIN LESIONS!
Summer is approaching and we are starting to focus more on our body. During the warm season other people will notice things that have been carefully covered by our clothes. Nowadays you don’t have to live with disturbing skin lesions, as you can easily get rid of them to freely enjoy the breeze of light summer wind on the naked skin.
Dermatologist of the Azaryan Medical Clinic, Dr. Lana Mieze tells about the visit to the dermatologist and how to get rid of unwanted skin lesions.
Examination and removal of skin formation
During the visit dermatologist will examine the disturbing lesion with the pocket size device – dermatoscope. The procedure is completely painless and fast – one formation is examined within few seconds. But if during the previous year all skin lesions are not examined, it is recommended to examine them right before the summer season.
In majority of cases benign lesions are removed with laser but depending on location and size, sometimes also surgical removal is suggested. In most cases skin lesions are removed with the laser using local anaesthesia – for bigger lesions performing subdernmal injection or for smaller formations with the application of the numbing cream around 20 minutes before the treatment.
Most frequently at the dermatologist office we have to encounter elevated birthmarks, skin tags, seborrheic keratoses, hemangiomas, milias and hyperplasia of adipose glands. From most of these formations you can get rid once and for all but it is different with lesions that are located in the deeper layers of the skin, for example, elevated birthmarks. In order a “hole” would not remain in the area treated with a laser, part of the elevated birthmark that is not visible with the eye, stays. Therefore, there is a possibility that after some time this lesion can grow back. Good news is that treatment can be performed repeatedly.
What to observe after the treatment?
The treated area after the treatment resembles a scratch in frame of the formation which during the healing process covers with crust. When the crust falls off, initially there can be a red spot which later evens out and skin can be slightly lighter than in the area around it. Approximately 1-2 weeks after the treatment it is recommended not to attend sauna, pool, not to take a bath and during the first days to avoid intensive physical activities. Do not intently tan the treated areas exposed to the sun and use sunscreen with SPF 50 for around 2-4 weeks. Apply moisturizing and healing promoting cream on the wounds twice a day until the crust falls off.
Whereas, in case of malignant skin formations, for example, melanomas or basal cell carcinomas surgical removal of the lesion is required with the following histological examination. Further treatment tactics depend on its result.
