LASER HAIR REMOVAL AS HYPERTRICHOSIS TREATMENT
Laser hair removal is currently the most up-to-date method of epilating unwanted hair. It is effective and relatively painless. The laser beam targeting melanin - the pigment in the hair, which absorbs the light energy- succeeds in damaging the hair follicle, and as a result, the hair falls out. Laser hair removal is effective, if the skin of the body area meant for treatment is light whereas the hair is dark.
How many procedures will be necessary?
For long-lasting results, you will have to undergo a laser hair removal course consisting, on average, of 6 to 8 procedures. However, already after the first procedures the hair starts growing slowly, becomes thinner, lighter, less noticeable, and stops growing into the skin.
How long should I wait before repeating the procedure?
The procedure is usually repeated every 4 to 6 weeks depending on how quickly the hair grows back.
What can I expect after the procedure?
Following the procedure, the hair falls out within 10-14 days. Right after the manipulation there may develop slight redness and swelling that will disappear within a couple of hours after the laser hair removal.
How should I prepare for the procedure?
You should shave the hair in the area to be epilated 1-2 days before the laser hair removal procedure.
Hair should not be removed with tweezers, epilator, or wax for 2 weeks before the procedure.
Do not sunbathe, visit the solarium, or use self-tanning products for 3-4 weeks prior to the procedure.
Is laser hair removal procedure painful?
During the procedure you may experience a slight burning pain that will go away very soon. If the patient deems the procedure painful, an anaesthetic cream can be applied 40 min prior to the manipulation.
How long does the laser hair removal procedure take?
Depending on the area to be treated the procedure may take from 10 to 60 minutes.
Are there any post-treatment recommendations?
If redness occurs following the procedure, it is advised that the laser treated area be soothed with a calming skin moisturizing cream. Alcohol based lotions and skin irritating deodorants should not be used for 3 days after the procedure. You should avoid visiting the solarium and exposing yourself to direct sunlight for 2 weeks following the laser hair removal. Also, it is recommended to use (spf) 50 sunscreen cream on laser treated skin areas.
